Thailand’s King Bhumibol Adulyadej
On October 13, 2016, Thailand's venerated King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the world's longest-reigning monarch, passed away at the age of 88 years. Known as a king of “grace and warmth,” King Bhumibol passed away at Bangkok's Siriraj Hospital after reigning for over 70 years.
Burnaby businessman, Paul Eakkachaichanvet, who is the owner of Lhy Thai Restaurant on Edmonds Street, wishes to honour the passing of the king through a gift to Burnaby Hospital. Paul wanted to do show his respect in a way that reflected the former leader’s beliefs and values. Paul explains that in Thailand, “it is tradition to make an offering such as feeding or clothing the poor on such a somber occasion.” Paul considered making this gift to a charity abroad, but chose instead to help his local community hospital and the patients there. If you wish to add to Paul’s offering, you may do so here.
